Two iPads on one ID

Hi. Background - I have a new iPad which I’d like to use in addition to my current one but for different purposes. I’d like to retain the old one for entertainment purposes mainly but also for documents and photos I don’t want on my other devices. The new one will then be the main iPad and used to work on documents I have in iCloud. I have never synched photos on the current iPad with those on my iPhone and MacBook. I would like the new iPad to have access to those.

So if I set up my new iPad using a backup from the current one can I then delete apps on the old one (storage very low) but retain them on the new? In other words do the two devices diverge from that point rather than remaining remaining permanently synched. As this would transfer the photos not in iCloud, can I then delete these from the new iPad while retaining them on the old, then enable photos on new iPad to synch with my other iCloud devices?

thanks.

iOS devices don’t “synch” with each other. They can be signed into the same Apple ID which means that content can be shared across them. But they are still independent devices. When you delete or install apps on one device they will not be deleted or installed on another one. Edit - just saw what you said about photos. If you delete photos in iCloud Photo Library on any device they will be deleted on all other devices signed into the same iCloud account.

Thanks. So I’m safe to delete away. Apologies for the confusion with terminology, I think it was because I knew deleting a photo on one device deleted it all in same iCloud library so I thought something similar might happen with Apps. As for the photos I was thinking of deleting, the ones on my current iPad are stored locally there not in the iCloud - at least I think not as they don’t appear on my other devices! So I should be safe to delete these when they appear on the new iPad on set up without losing them on the old iPad? I will keep some of them and I’m assuming therefore if I then enable the photo sharing on the new iPad these will then be added to the iCloud library and I will then be able to access then from my iPhone and all the photos I have currently on my iPhone will then be available to view on the new iPad. (Terrified of losing all the photos I have in iCloud!)
