Use apple TV remote as the *only* remote for a TV

Thanks... In looking over my setup I realized I was missing an HDMI cable. Did not need it for my previous setup.

Now the Apple remote controls all the basic functions... Success!

If your TV supports the HDMI-CEC protocol (almost 100% of modern TVs do) then you can indeed control everything with the Apple TV Remote.

I control my Denon AVR and Sony HDTV with my Apple TV Remote only. You just make sure the option is turned on. Consult your TV’s user guide.

Just got the Apple TV device and set up to turn TV on and control volume on my Denon AVR-S900W. The TV's HDMI-CEC is turned on, as is the Apple TV remote control of TV & receiver. Only thing that does not seem to work is turning On/Off receiver. Did I miss something? Do you have to double click the apple remote power button or something?

You need to check the user guide for your Denon AVR-S900W and discover if there is a setting that blocks the ‘off’ command. The Apple TV conforms with the HDMI-CEC standard. No, double clicking changes nothing.

I have a Denon AVR-S960J and it turns on/off with the Apple remote as expected.

@foxyjoe & @Visitor Q - how exactly did you connect all these devices? Apple TV is connected to the AVR first? And then a single HDMI cable is going to a TV? Did you test other scenarios? How about if you'll provide another CEC-supporting device like PS5 or something? I'm on my way to buy a similar setup, and I need to be sure ;)

Also - which cables did you get? There are so many standards in here…
