Apple Watch Ultra with Wetsuit

Can someone please advise as to what settings I’m missing for setting my Ultra to function while wearing a wetsuit? I need to be able to use it as I normally would: ie use Siri and the “Action Button” with Wetsuit gloves on. My specific use case is Kayaking in cold water.

Turning off the lock is unacceptable as that interferes with Wallet and Apple Pay. I don’t want to reconfigure my Watch every time I get in the water (Which in the summer months can be daily).

This seems like a major misstep as this product is marketed to “real adventures”. How can this work as a dive device if it can’t work with a wetsuit? I thought Apple Watch could finally handle cold temps and true off-grid use. Am I missing something?

The Apple webpage for the Ultra shows photos and videos of a diver wearing the watch over a wetsuit. The descriptive copy on the page describes the diving watchband as being made to wear over a wetsuit, including mention of an available extension to accommodate wearing over a wetsuit. The copy also specifically mentions that the digital crown and the side button are oversized to accommodate use while wearing gloves.

My guess is that when using the watch over a wetsuit, you are limited to the diving functions available in the dive app. But other functions that require contact with the skin of your wrist are not available at that time.

Apple appears to have attempted to make a watch for the outdoors adventurers and their needs, your mileage may very.
