Does the 3.5mm to USB-C adapter support TRRS?

Is it possible to connect a TRRS headset to a Macbook using Apple's USB-C adapter (instead of via the 3.5mm port on the Macbook)? I'm getting a lot of 'noise' in the signal at the moment in calls, which both I and the person at the other end of the line can hear. With the same headset on iPhone (connected via Apple's 3.5mm to Lightning adapter) there is no 'noise' at all and the mic and headphones work perfectly, so I assume it would work via USB-C on the Macbook too?

The headset is a Koss Porta Pro Communication Headset. The mic quality far surpasses any USB or Bluetooth headset I'm aware of, so I'd rather solve this jack problem than to switch to a USB headset.

Thanks. I'll get the adapter and give this a go. Is the noise normal when using the internal port on the Macbook Air? I don't get this noise with the wired EarPods, but I also don't get it using the headset with my iPhone, so it seems to be just this combination of the headset and Macbook. Do you think there's something wrong with my 3.5mm port on the Macbook or is this usual?
