Apple Car Play problem with 16.4 update.

Let's try the following steps below:

If you need help with CarPlay

1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:

* If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.

* If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth. Then go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on.

Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.

4. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display and select it.

5. Restart your iPhone and your car. 

6. Make sure that Siri is on.

7. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.

8. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.

9. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

I found that doing a hard reset on the BMW iDrive system and then reinstalling the phone worked. Not sure why and I hope it stays that way.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. It’s very much appreciated. Unfortunately those steps haven’t worked and now the newest BMW X7 with iDrive 8 won’t connect to the IPhone 14 at all. The BMW displays a message that the Bluetooth version isn’t compatible with the iPhone. The older BMW’s we have with iDrive 7 connect to our iPhones for calls but only randomly to CarPlay. All 3 of these cars worked with CarPlay instantly before the 16.4 update. I’ll research to see if anyone else is having the same issues.

Been having the same issue with our iDrive 8 and iPhone 14s with 16.4. My wife’s connected no problem at the beginning of April and worked up until last week when the two softwares stopped accepting one another. Had to “forget” and re-pair. Mine in the middle of April took about 10 tries just to pair. Today mine stopped being able to connect. I just installed 16.5 so fingers crossed that works. And before I get the detailed troubleshooting response, I know it all by heart and have done all of the above described. It isn’t a setting on the phone. It worked perfectly for a month+ and now just randomly it stops wanted to connect.

I’m having the same issue with my 2023 3 series. For the past month my phone doesn’t connect to my car without manually selecting the BMW wifi signal. Even then it may not connect to CarPlay for 5-10 minutes. It used to work perfectly. Running 16.6 and this remains a problem. I’ve “forgotten”/ disconnected the phone a dozen times and re-paired it to no success.

Sounds exactly like the problem I had. Just upgraded to 16.5 and the iDrive also notified me of an update. We’ll see how it goes.

Not sure why but it seems to be the worse when I am in my driveway at home and my phone is connected to my home WiFi. It seems when I am out and my phone is not connected to wifi and hop in the BMW it seems to work fine?

I have the same issue with iDrive 8.5 and iPhone 14 running 16.6. Even worse it resets the iDrive system when it is trying to connect to my phone (usually right when I am backing up)

I did this, and it worked. But then as soon as I stopped my car, the phone unpaired with AppleCar Play

@AJGIO- did you ever get this to work? I’m having the same issue now with my 2022 X3.

It’s even WORSE with the 17.2 update! I wish I’d never done the remote update!
