I have a users whose font book application won't launch. We've tried deleting the font cache and the plist file but it still won't launch. It will under other user profiles... also deleted all the files from the font folder.
After the icon bounces, font book says it can't connect to one of our servers so I suspect that a font on the server was activated (instead of installing it).
not sure what else to try...

Given you've tried all other normal steps, it's probably an active Library or Collection set you made pointing to a font it can't find.
Close Font Book, then open this folder in your user account:
/Users/your_account/Library/FontCollections
Move all items in the FontCollections folder to your desktop.
Open Font Book to test.
Have you tried mounting the server share? Then open Font Book? I would then recommend using the advanced settings on Font Book to reset all fonts. When you reset fonts, they are moved to ~/Library/Fonts (Removed).
FontCollections... that did it... I asked the user if they had emptied this folder and they said they had. I had them try again and that worked. Thanks!

Thanks but the server was already mounted. And there was no way to open font book so resetting fonts wasn't an option. Clearing the fontCollections folder for the user ended up being the solve.
