Troubleshooting the Background Changing:

You may have unknowing changed it. So try the following. If it doesn’t work, you’ll likely have to reinstall the macOS. So where to begin:

A. B. Refresh Finder:

Click: Apple menu > Click: Force Quit… > Select: [top item] > Click: Refresh button

B. Try a New User:

What happens when you create a new Administrator user, and log into it?

C. Change the Background:

See if you are able to change the background.

No success?

D. Restart the Mac:

Having tried all of the above, restart the Mac, seeing if you get any issues.
