Why are my iPads no longer connected to my iPhone? I cannot make phone calls from them or look at my iMessages.

Check that you have explicitly enabled Text Message Forwarding for your iPad on your iPhone...
On your iPhone:
- Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding - set to ON - and explicitly enable each of your iPads from the list of devices.
Also ensure that Messages in iCloud is enabled on both your iPhone and iPads:
- Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > Messages - set to ON
For calls from your iPads, ensure that you have similarly enabled Calls on Other Devices on your iPhone:
- Settings > Mobile Data > Calls on Other Devices - set to ON - and explicitly enable each of your iPads from the list of devices.
- Settings > Mobile Data > WiFi Calling > Add WiFi Calling For Other Devices - set to ON
