Duplicate Contact but, no Duplicates found below My Card

I'm on an iPhone 13 mini and have multiple duplicate contacts (nearly 20,000. Sadly, I'm not that popular)which are also in my iCloud account.

I have searched for how to delete or merge them but, the 'Duplicates Found' that should appear below My Card is not there.

Any ideas?

Hi TheCheese04,

If you use a Mac with your Apple ID, the article If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts offers the following suggestion for resolving duplicates:

"On your Mac

  1. Make a copy of your contacts.
  2. Open Contacts.
  3. From the Card menu, select Card > Look for Duplicates.
  4. When asked, click Merge.
  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no duplicates are found.
  6. Make another copy of your iCloud Contacts."

If you don't use a Mac, contacting Apple Support directly for assistance or investigation may be necessary.

Regards.

I experienced the same on my iPhone 2 Pro Max, with iOS 17.2.1 installed, but I SOLVED it as follows:

1. Under Settings app > Contacts > Accounts, I disabled all accounts except the iCloud account.

2. I went back to the Contacts app (Phone app > Contacts works, too), and I swiped the list down to refresh it.

3. The option of “XX Duplicates Found” appeared below “My Card” at the top of the total list of contacts, a/o at the bottom of the total list of contacts.

Hope this works for you, as well!

My SO is having this issue right now and neither of us were seeing the duplicates found button. BUT…

I went into the PHONE app (not contacts app) then followed the same instructions. Select contacts, choose my card, go back to contacts, and the “duplicates found” button appeared! Now, admittedly it worked for me and not my SO (she accidentally imported her contact list 4 times and has like 2000 duplicates) but hoping this helps some others.
