Why does “new massage” automatically open when I open messages

When I open messages, it starts a new message every time and I have to cancel to read my messages. This is just when I open messages. If I am opening to read and reply to a new message, it still opens a new message as though I want to compose a new message and I have to cancel out of it. Why is this? It only just started happening today.

Three things:

  1. Force close all apps on your device, as per these instructions:--> Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch
  2. If, as shown from your products list, your iPhone is still running the prehistoric iOS 14, I suggest that you update it to the latest iOS version.
  3. Try a "forced" restart of your device using these instructions: Put it on charge for at least half an hour, then, keeping it plugged in, use these gestures: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 10-20 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear, the one with the "slider" to turn the device off included).
