Macbookpro (M2 Max) 2023 with Ventura (13.2.1) and IMAC 2012 (i9) with Catalina - Target Display Mode

I am looking for connecting my old imac as an external monitor for my macbook pro

I know about Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support (CA)

But i saw some posts and some online info that shows that the target display mode can be obtained without the requirements presented by apple.

example:

I am using an apple thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter and i can't manage to make it work.

Any suggestions?

Thanx

Thank you

1- my mistake, its not a i9 it is an i7

2- Luna sounds like it has a few limitations and i am using the computer on video editing, i am bit scared of it not working properly (specially in color grading) and lag can be a big issue on this kind of work

3-How sure are you about TDM not working? Bear in mind this: Target Display Mode - Apple Community (there are several other similar articles)

Target Display mode is not supported on the M2 Mac with Ventura. You can check out Luna Display, but it may be slow without a fast LAN. Apple did not ship Core i9 processors in an iMac until 2019.

I screen share my 2020 iMac Core i7 (Monterey 12.6.5) with my M2 Mac mini pro occasionally as the iMac is in a different room, and with my 32-in display on the mini, the iMac presentation is nearly as large as sitting in front of it. Since both Macs are connected over Wi-Fi 6, the connection has virtually no lag. I could do the reverse if I wanted to sit in front of the iMac and work on Ventura 13.3.1 from the mini, but don't use it this way.
