How do I make the default for opening up folders to widest range?

For every folder that I open, I have to drag the black vertical line on the right side of the folder back out to the widest setting. How can I change it so that I don't have to do that anymore?

If there is a way to do that, I am not aware of it.

One thing you can do is to option-double click the dividing line; even then, it only moves so the contents of the folder fit inside, it does not move it all the way.
