After updating IMac to 12.6.5 safari disappeared and says it cannot run on this computer

I have an iMac on which I just carried out the requested upgrade to 12.6.5 on opening I noticed safari had disappeared and a holder icon replaced it. On clicking the icon I get the message “you can’t open the application safari because this application is not supported on this Mac”.

there were no issue with safari prior to this update.

Hmm... that is the latest version of Safari for Monterey.

Another possibility is that some type of AV-ware or a VPN is blocking the use of Safari.

Try starting up in Safe Mode.

see > How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Test Safari in Safe Mode, then re-test after a normal restart.

Also keep in mind the macOS has all of the Security required to keep your iMac safe. It does not benefit from third party AV-ware, Cleaning-ware or VPN's.
