MacOS Messages app won't send SMS messages (green) but will send iMessages (blue)

Hi,

I'm using Ventura 13.3.1 on my MacBook Air and iOS 16.4.1 on my iPhone 13 Pro.

Two problems:

  1. The problem in the title for this post: I can only send iMessages (or however blue messages are referred to these days), green messages result in "Message Send Failure". I have signed in and out of the app, in and out of my account, and I've rebooted my laptop.
  2. My laptop and iPhone won't sycn Messages. I've signed out of and back into the iPhone app and rebooted it as well.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.3

Hi, Yes, Text Message Forwarding is enabled on my iPhone for my Mac.

The funny thing is that I disabled Text Message Forwarding for my Mac. I then signed out of Messages on my Mac and shutdown my Mac. Started it back up again. Started Messages and it picked up right where it was and didn't ask for a signin.

Also disabling and re-enabling Text Message Forwarding on my phone should result in a code being forwarded that I enter to confirm that the connection is valid – that doesn't happen at all.

Messages on my Mac seems to be completely disconnected from the messaging service. Although I can scroll back as far as I want in each conversation.

I can't imagine how these are related, but messaging broke on my Mac shortly after doing a backup and restore of my iPhone.

Ideas?

I've never had any connection to iCloud other than find my device.
