I retired and no longer have access to my old exchange account. My iPad constantly stops and pops up a request for a password. This has been going on since 2018 and I need to delete this and stop the pop-up. How can I do this?

Presumably you refer to an account used to send/receive email from your iPad. If so, the account is easily deleted from iPad settings:
Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your Exchange Account] > Delete Account
