Watch stuck on ‘loading’ when trying to control music on iPhone

When I have music playing on my iPhone, my watch will tell me what’s playing via the Music complication on the top left as per this screenshot:

But when I tap it to control the music, it’s stuck saying ‘loading’ and doesn’t ever load:

Has anyone come across this issue and know how to solve it?
