Apple TV apps & temporary audio output

i have an Apple TV 4K which is connected to a projector and Sonos sound system through the temporary audio output. However I am coming across an issue where many of the apps on the Apple TV, such as Kayo, do not send audio through the temporary audio output even when it is correctly connected. Is there a fix for this

The audible cues do come through the speaker, and the speakers do go to a standby mode after a while of inactivity but they get out of it instantly when connecting to them through temporary audio from the apple tv. There is a white light that indicates it’s ready to use and it turns on after connecting, plus some apps work perfectly fine straight away.

Looks like I will have to contact apple support then as there is no easy fix, but thanks anyways for trying to solve the issue

Verify that the Sonos is turned on and ready to receive AirPlay streams, when starting to use them, as it might perhaps turn to standby mode when inactive for a while. Does it have a status light that you can check visually?

Even the home screen navigation on Apple TV is supposed to give a audible cues that should be send to speakers. Then you would know if there is something to fix, even before launching an app.

If the issue persists, and unless someone else chimes in with a new idea, then I would suggest to contact an expert from the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (chat/email/callback).

All apps should follow the device audio output setting.

What happens instead for you? Default wired speakers or no audio at all?

Try this for any misbehaving app:

  1. Force-quit the app, then relaunch and try again.
  2. If the issue persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
  3. If the issue still persists, delete the app, re-download and try again.
  4. If the issue still persists after that, then contact the app developer for further assistance.

I get no audio output as there are no “wired speakers” as the hdmi goes to a projector with no speakers so the default audio device does nothing. Additionally in the Sonos app, it shows “playing from airplay” when using the Spotify app on the Apple TV, but when using Kayo and also the 9Now app and a few others, the Sonos app shows as the speakers not playing, as if the Apple TV isn’t transmitting the audio at all.

As this is a problem I experience in more than one app I would assume it’s not just a problem with the app itself, and maybe how the Apple TV receives the audio stream?

Also I found a very temporary work around where I toggle all the audio outputs in the Apple TV settings on an off and try streaming inbetween tries and it eventually fixes it but this is extremely time consuming and inconsistent.

I have the same issue., I get sound through a wired connection though. Ive done everything urqhart1244 suggested.

This wasn't a problem until I tried to switch from my apple tv to my laptop as my kids were being loud and I was required to change rooms. I feel something in the hand over caused the problem as I only pay for the 1 device at a time subscription package with Kayo.
