terminal forkpty: Device not configured

This often shows when I try to open terminal.

Like I open max 5 terminals but this happen in the middle of the day.

[forkpty: Device not configured]

[Could not create a new process and open a pseudo-tty.]

It gets solved when I restart my mac but that's not the fundamental solution for me be cause this happens almost 1~2 times a day.

I really have no idea why this happens.

Using 13.3.1 now.

Please help !!

Does this happen when using tabs within Terminal, or just with new Terminal app windows?

This might be due to something in your login scripts, and I’d stub those out temporarily, just to check this.

Download and run EtreCheck, and share the report to the clipboard. Then open a new reply here and then press the Additional Text button that looks like a printed page to get a text input box big enough to paste the hardware and software configuration report here, and paste and post the report here.

I’m mildly surprised this Mac boots and works.

Update DiscreteScroll, as a first step.

Then failing that… Remove Symantec / Norton, and Ahnlab and Wizvera security add-ons, and remove Karabiner, and see if the problem persists.

Then the same removal for removing DiscreteScroll, and then for Logi, and then for Docker.

Since you probably won’t be able to do at least some of that removal (as this reeks of a corporate-managed system), contact your IT organization, and explain the issue to them, and that it’s quite possibly caused by their add-ons getting tangled.
