External SSD overheating under macOS Big Sur

My External SSD disk overheat even if its not working, Case Orico USB 3.1 Nvme Kingston 2TB.

I have this problem only on my MacBook Pro 2018 with Big Sur, try all ports

bcs if I connect the ssd on my Mac studio everything works good and ssd is cold,

any idea what can be?

The external SSD is overheating at rest. Good afternoon! I have noticed that my SSD drive gets very hot when it is not under load. The resting temperature reaches 65 degrees Celsius. I am using my device with macOS latest version and also with Windows 11 through Parallels software. Temperature at rest is high on both macOS and Windows 11, please study the screenshots. My MacBook M2 Pro keeps freezing whenever I connect external M.2 SSDs with a thunderbolt 3/4 cable. I have an M.2 SSD (SK Hynix P31 512GB) in an external SSD case (WIZPLAT TUB4000P). The case supports multiple data transfer protocols, including USB 3.1, USB 4, and Thunderbolt 3/4. It works fine when I connect the SSD to my MacBook with USB 3.1 cable. However, My MacBook keeps freezing and automatically restarts whenever I connect it with Thunderbolt (3 and 4) cable. Even worse, the restarting cannot be finished (MacBook continuously repeats restarting) until I physically disconnect the SSD. I don't think it's a cable problem or SSD itself. The external SSD works fine with the same Thunderbolt cables on Windows and Linux PCs. Does anyone have the same or similar problem with me? How can I fix this?

External Lacie hard drive keeps falling asleep After switching to my new MacBook Pro (M2 Max, 2023 - Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1) my external Lacie hard drives keep falling asleep. Although the option Put hard disks to sleep when possible is set to Never. It's driving me crazy! Any way around this? Thanks Dieter

What makes you think the SSD is overheating?

Have you tried booting this Mac into Safe Mode? If Safe Mode resolves the problem, then you most likely have an issue with some third party software.

Connect the drive directly to the computer and disconnect all other external devices in case one of them is interfering.
