Movies transfered from Mac to iPad show up as music videos

I have my ipad connected to my MB pro via usb-C. I’ve tried transcoding the video into several formats that are supposedly compatible with ipad, and have the ipad set to ‘manually manage music videos and tv shows’. drag n drop the video to my ipad via Finder and it accepts the transfer BUT the video appears on the ipad under ‘Songs’ and plays like a music video instead of as a regular movie. how can I get it to show up as a movie?

note: I do have Cloud Music Library selected for music which may be causing the problem, I’m not sure.

*when I transfer via AirDrop they go to the Photos library which is not what I want either. I’d like them to be ‘Movies’ in the TV app if possible.

Hello, eternity323,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

To get started here, we want to recommend that you double check and make sure that you are following the procedure to transfer your content between your Mac and your iPad exactly as described in this article: Sync movies between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. The reason we suggest starting there is to ensure that all of the baseline recommendations and steps are being followed since it is easy for something small to be overlooked which can end up leading to these types of issues.

If that doesn't seem to help, you may try disabling Sync Library to test the issue as you mentioned in your post. We wouldn't say that Sync Library is expected to cause that type of issue, but it's certainly worth trying if you're concerned. This article goes into that process in more detail: Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices - Apple Support

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

I have been experiencing this issue as well since iOS17, very frustrating.

Have found a workable solution:

Add file to TV app on the Mac, where it should appear under the category of 'Home Videos'

Then drag the file from the Home Videos window to your iPad in the sidebar.

This should add it to the TV app on your iSO device under 'Home Videos'

Not as seamless as before as it requires the extra step(s) of adding (and then deleting) from the TV app on Mac, but it gets the files on the iPad in the right place.
