Notes completely disappeared from macbook air

I noticed that my notes on my macbook air weren't syncing to my phone so I went into the settings, unchecked the sync box in my ICloud, and then I opened my notes again and they all disappeared. When I rechecked the box, the notes from my phone synced over to my macbook but all the previous ones I only had on the mac still didn't show up. They don't appear in the recently deleted folder, and when I log into ICloud it says that there is nothing to recover. I tried going into finder and searching for the ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes/ folder, but I do not have it. Both devices are up to date, and I'm unable to use time machine as I never previously set it up. If anyone has any idea on how I can get them back, please let me know! I was using them for the past month to take notes on my classes
