How to stop AirPods Pro from auto playing Spotify when connected

Hi,

how do I turn off auto play on Spotify when connecting my AirPods Pro?

Solutions I’ve read suggest turning of auto ear detection but this feels like a workaround and not a long term solution as I’d still like auto ear detection when I decide to play music and remove an AirPod but not for music to start playing as soon as I connect them?

Hey there Dre2k1983,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. What action are you performing with your AirPods and iPhone when this occurs, or does this occur automatically upon putting your AirPods in your ears? The more details you provide, the better we'll understand the issue.
  2. When did this start to occur?
  3. Is the Spotify app open, or was the last used app, right before this issue occurs?
  4. Does this same issue occur if you test a different pair of headphones with your iPhone?
  5. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone and How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro
  6. If you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.4.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  7. What occurs if you test using your AirPods with a different device?

Cheers!
