Why is Apple music 'loseless' stream as lossy on Air Play?

Other apps, e.g. Amazon music are able to stream loserless (16/44.1k CD quality) on Airplay and they sound s million times better on my high end hifi system.

Is this still the case? Any work arounds? I really like Apple music UI etc but this let down on sound quality absolutely sucks.

This is only when wirelessly streaming on your wifi network, if you can actually plug your phone with a cable it's proper bit perfect lossless. What does Amazon know about iOS that Apple doesn't?

Are you sure Amazon Music streams lossless over AirPlay 2? I have tried Tidal over AirPlay 2 and iPhone downdrages HiRes songs to a lossy AAC too I.e. it is not Apple Music. It is Apple AirPlay 2 streaming limitation.

Apple mystery. Why would one need lossless Apple Music then… when 99% of users listen either over AirPlay or AirPods?
