Music quality in iTunes match

I ripped my cd’s a long time ago before Apple Lossless. If I turn iTunes Match back on, won’t it provide the older inferior aac to the files, rather than the newer lossless quality on Apple Music?

Low quality files on itunes store I have bought a handful of music tracks from the iTunes store that do not match the quality standards one would require when purchasing music files. I usually analyze every track I buy in order to attest to sound quality and was surprised at the low quality on a few of them. Honestly, they were sometimes inferior to tracks ripped off from YouTube, which is saying something. At first, I thought it was due to recording technologies as some of the first tracks where I noticed it were quite old, but later I found this on more recent recordings as well. Apple has refunded me on each occasion, which is fine. My questions are: Why does this happen? And should I buy multiple recordings of the same track until I find one that is high quality? I still want those tracks I got refunded in high quality.

iTunes matching wrong version of song Hi. I know I’m far from the first person to ask this, but iTunes is consistently matching the wrong version of a song & I can’t find a solution that works. I’ve ripped a cd onto my pc using iTunes (Prince’s 1999) but when it uploads to iCloud, it’s matching to a different version of the title track (on the album it segues into the next track, but the matched version fades out a few a seconds earlier). I’ve tried deleting & reuploading the track with a different name, & converted it to a different format, but no joy. Any ideas? (Beyond just listening to the album on Apple Music obviously!)

Itunes Match DRM or Not? I'm so confused. I have my entire music library in what was iTunes and is now Music. The vast majority of this came from ripping all my CD's into iTunes but over the years there have been many, many purchases of songs and albums in the iTunes/Music Store. I also have iTunes Match as I listen a lot to my library on my iPhone and on different computers etc. By accident I recently clicked on the download icon for one song and noticed that whilst I didn't end up with a duplicate in the Music library, when I looked at my hard drive, I had a new m4a file of that song but with a "1" added to the end of the file name. Looking at the audio properties of both files, the one that was downloaded is at a higher bitrate and is twice the size of the original one on my hard drive. As I now work from home, I don't really need iTunes Match as much and so I was considering dropping it but are songs downloaded through iTunes Match DRM'd or not? I've read conflicting accounts and it seems also that if you have an Apple Music subscription (I do not), you can specify to stream and download in a lossless format but these are DRM'd. I don't seem to have an option to specify lossless for stream or download in Music (presumably because I don't have a subscription) but I do have the import function set to lossless for when I rip CD's. I just don't want to download 22K songs only to find they are all DRM'd.

Hi,

The best quality you will get from iTunes Match is 256 Kbps aac.

Apple Music includes iTunes Match features. The matching function is the same but the main difference is that matched track may have lossless or hi-res versions available for streaming. You can replace and download those tracks but they contain copyright protection and are only playable whilst you have an active subscription. You should keep a backup of your music.

Not correct. Tracks are matched at 256 Kbps AAC
