Is it a singlular AirPod? Or AirPods including the case? If it a singular earbud then there really isn't anything you can do without the case. However, if you have their AirPods then you can flip open the case and if the owner has then in "lost mode," then contact information will be displayed that you can use to call them.
Another option is to turn them in to your local law enforcement department. The owner would most likely to check there.
