Startup Applications upload

First suggestion, take a look at System Preferences -> General -> Login Items. I am not inclined to have anything under Open at Login. Selecting and clicking minus leaves the app in place.

Second suggestion, when you select the shut-down command, make sure "Re-open windows when logging back in" is not selected.
