Safari crashes every time I try to type "Herroom" in the search bar

I noticed that earlier on, people were having the same problem with typing words that began with "sa": their Safari browser would crash every time they tried to type in this combination of letters.

I was checking on a transaction that my elderly mother had made (to make sure that she hadn't been hacked), and tried to find the name of the vendor, an online women's underwear shop called "Her Room". Every time I type "herro..." in the search bar, Safari crashes. So, so strange. Any ideas?

This is a longstanding bug with no solution that works in all cases. However, the one most likely to work is to de-select "Preload Top Hit in the background" as described under "Stop preloading the top search hit", here:

If that stops the crashing, then examine Safari's History for any website that contains those letters in its URL — in the example you cited, remove any history item containing "herroo". Or, just clear all history:

Then, you ought to be able to re-select "Preload Top Hit..." without Safari crashing, assuming that was the cause.
