(Lack of) Sony HEIF support
Same question as https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254530386 and https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254063853
I've got a Sony A7M4. Sony HEIF photos imported on the Mac sync and appear in the iCloud photo libraries on the iPhone. Also, HEIF photos imported from camera to iPhone directly via Sony's Imagine Edge App could also sync to Mac via iCloud successfully.
- On iPhone, these photos can be edited. But it’s liable to crash the Photos app when I try to save the edits. If Photos doesn’t crash, edits made on the iPhone will sync to the Mac.
- On Mac, these photos can be edited and saved locally on the Photos app. But the image then presents the “exclamation point cloud” icon in the lower right stating there’s an error and the higher quality version of the image can’t be downloaded — even though the original photo is stored locally on the Mac. Edits don’t sync to other devices.
- On Mac, photos that shot on iPhone and synced to Mac can be successfully edited and synced by Mac's Photos app to iPhone. Would this prove the Photo app on my Mac has been properly configured for iCloud sync?
I have multiple iPhones and Macs, they all follow the above behavior.
Mac: Ventura 13.2
iPhone: iOS 16.1
MacBook Air 13″, 13.0
