White noise sound when playing recorded videos'

Hi there.

Got for almost a year a strange problem with my iphone XSMax. And It seems no one have a solution for it.

When i play a video made with the iphone camera app, it makes a static loud white noise sound. The strangest thing is, it OLNY happens when i playback a video which is record in a silent environment. When i record a video when there is already sound..for example people talking...music.. or whatever, the recordings are perfect. unless there is a silence while filming... the noise is right back again. It looks like a bug in the camera app or a sort of audio detection issue.

Both camera's and microphones are ok. no problems at all.

Calling, video calls facetime/whatsapp are perfect.

What i've done so far:

reboot iphone

updated to latest Ios 16.4

disabbled stereo recording option (someone online mentioned this solution, but doesn't work)

Full iphone recovery

Iphone recovery through DFU mode, and setup as new iphone.

After some searching online, I found out that a lot more people have the same issues. even people with a new Iphone 13/14 (pro)

Looks almost like a software problem. Did already a bug report to Apple.

Anyone else here that has the same problem?

Hello Jarrefan,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. You've done an excellent job with the troubleshooting steps that were performed. To help troubleshoot this further, we recommend for you to update your iPhone to iOS 16.4.1. This is the latest version that's currently available as it helps provide software improvements that may help you in this situation with the background sound for recorded videos. If needed, here's how to update the software on your iPhone:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

These steps are outlined here and may help: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We look forward to hearing back from you with an update.

Kind regards.

Hi Bryanr14,

I am already on the newest iOS 16.4.1. unfortunately it did not solve my problem. The noise sound mostly happen when recording only in a silent environment. otherwise the recordings are fine. Even the calling/voicerecorder/facetime or whatsapp video calling are without problems. So i doubt that this is a hardware issue but more a software related problem. That why i did a bug report to Apple.

More people have the same issue. see also the links below:
