Gap left after deleting section

I am doing a Ripple Training tutorial and his Final Cut does not act the same as mine when using the blade tool on the time line. I can use the blade tool on a clip in two spots and then select the section and hit the delete key and I end up with a gap. On the tutorial when he hits delete the clips slide together and no gap.

I would assume I have a setting wrong, but cant figure it out.

You probably activated the Position tool, instead of the usual Arrow tool (also known as the Select tool).

Press the letter A to switch back to the Arrow tool (or select from the little menu above the timeline), and try again. Notice how the icons for the Select tool and the Position tool differ - that will give you a visual clue.

No its not. Actually, I am using Ripple Trainings Media so its all setup just like what he is doing in the video. I even tried a new Library and added one photo in a new project and same issue. Here is a screenshot showing the gap that remains. So blade tool (B), blade tool again, Select (A) and click section and delete key.

This is what I end up with.
