Album artwork doesn't match album after adding songs to iPhone 13 from iTunes (from PC)

I upgraded from an iPhone X to iPhone 13 and transferred all of the music from the X to the 13. All of the album artwork transferred correctly. Now whenever I add additional music to the new iPhone from iTunes on my Windows PC, the album artwork shows up incorrectly on the iPhone. I've tried all the tricks mentioned in other posts by people who have had the same problem, but none of these methods fixes the issue for me. Why is this happening? And why does Apple not address this issue since clearly so many people have the same problem? Are there any other methods to fixing this problem other than wiping my iPhone of all music and starting over? I don't want to sync my entire iTunes library to my iPhone because there are some songs on my iPhone now that do not exist in my iTunes library and I would lose these songs if I wiped my iPhone of all music. And I'm not even convinced this would work! This has been a very frustrating problem.

Hey there MaxAndDobby,

The first thing we wanted to address was not having a backup of some of the songs that are only on your iPhone. While you would've needed to have synced them using a computer in the past at some point, this is the reason it's recommended to make a backup of content you don't want to lose, just in case your iPhone fails, or even if your computer fails.

Moving forward with troubleshooting the issue occurring with the incorrect album artwork showing on your iPhone, we wanted to learn more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. When did this start to occur when syncing with your Windows PC?
  2. Is the latest version of iTunes installed on your Windows PC, along with the latest Microsoft updates?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart, so has one already been tried for both devices?
  4. Since you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.4.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  5. Have you noticed this only occurring with specific albums?
  6. Do you currently have a subscription for iTunes Match, or Apple Music?

Cheers!

Thanks - I appreciate the trouble shooting suggestions. First, my iPhone is backed up on my PC. Here are my answers to your questions:

#1 - This album art mix-up started to happen after I upgraded from my iPhone 10XS to iPhone 13. My existing iPhone music library transferred from the 10 to the 13 with no trouble - all album artwork transferred correctly. Every time I have added a new album to my iPhone 13, the album artwork assigned to the album is from another album that is already in my iPhone iTunes library.

#2 - my PC has always updated automatically, as has iTunes on the PC and the iOS on my iPhone.

#3 - I have restarted both devices repeatedly.

#4 - I currently have iOS 16.4.1 on my iPhone

#5 - Interestingly, after uploading two albums from my PC iTunes library to iPhone, one album shows the artwork correctly, and the other album shows the wrong artwork.

#6 - I do not have subscriptions (nor have I ever had) for iTunes Match or Apple Music. Yet I still have never had this issue on any other iPhone I have owned since my first iPhone 3.
