Airpods pro 2 case making mystery ringing sound

Lately my airpod case has been making this ringing sound randomly throughout the day. It is NOT a simple chime like a charging alert or low battery sound. More like a "ring a ding ding dading" that goes on for 10 seconds or so. I'm guessing it's a "find my" thing, but there are no alerts on my phone. And they are clearly not lost. I'll just be sitting right next to them and they start ringing. I think it's the sound they make when you tap "play sound" in the find my app, but I can't understand why it's doing it at random times throughout the day all by itself. Any ideas?

Same thing happens to me fairly regularly. Typically when I pick it up after it hasn't been used for a while. Sometimes when it's just sitting there and I open up my iPhone, or my MacBook. The green light blinks as well. It's fully charged. It's clearly responding to me starting to interact with my iPhone or MacBook. As though some sort of wake up call. It typically goes through three cycles of the ringing before shutting up. Opening the lid may or may not stop it. Nobody else has my Apple ID. It's been doing this since I bought it many months ago. I think this is just a straight up bug in the design.

Hi Alexroett,

What you've described does sound like a potential Find My sound being played. This would only occur if the sound was triggered from Find My, either by you, by someone who has access via Family Sharing, or someone who has direct access to your Apple ID.

If you feel someone may have access to your Apple ID and should not, please follow the guidance for a compromised Apple ID to protect your privacy and data found in the Apple Support article If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support.

Should you need additional help, we recommend getting in touch with Apple Support directly. They will have access to the tools and resources needed to further investigate what is happening. You can do that here: Get Support.

Best.

It happens to every AirPod I own. It can be a musical sometimes. 1pm, 7pm, 3am. Doesn’t matter. Randomly happens every once a while and takes a while to shut it up. Happens to most ppl I know. So unless there’s a mass hack (I guess it’s possible), seems like a flaw in the device itself. I love them but started replacing all of mine with non Apple earphones because of it.
