2 apple ids

I have 2 apple ids. One is from the olden days when I had a comcast email. When I switched over to another, I started using my me.com as my user id. I was never succesful merging them, and of course, when i try to get into the comcast one, they want to send a comfirm to the email (and it no longer exists). I have purchased a lot of apps using the the old id, and now with my new phone, it won't let me use them. How can merge them? It seems like it should be a simple thing. I don't even know the password to the comcast id. Sigh...
