Certain e-mails in Apple Mail print blank (only with header)

Certain emails (interestingly mails like the invoice for Apple Music) don't print and can't be exported as pdf. If I change the paper format to A5 or any other format except A4 it does print. I generated a custom format of A4 for 210mm x 298 mm (instead of 210 mm x 297 mm), then it works. If the custom format is 210 mm x 297 mm the content disappears again.

My System:

Mail Version 16.0 (3731.500.231)

Mac OS Ventura 13.3.1 (German Language)

Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2021 with M1 Max

Other emails print normal on A4. How can I get normal A4 printouts?

MacBook Pro (2021)

No it didn't help, unfortunately. Did you understand the question and the description at all?

So again:

"Certain emails (interestingly mails like the invoice for Apple Music) don't print and can't be exported as pdf."

This clearly shows, that the problem is absolutely independent of the installed printer! So any reference to printer settings and drivers is unfortunately useless.

"I generated a custom format of A4 for 210mm x 298 mm (instead of 210 mm x 297 mm), then it works." If you would understand metric systems and A4 formats, this shows, that a difference of 1 mm (=0,039") magically makes the email print. This format is however slightly to large to be printed absolutely correct (for the time being I will live with it.)

Thanks.

Hello pisker,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We see you can't print in A4 when printing emails. We have a few published steps that may help on the Apple side of things. Check those out below.

Print emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

  1. "In the Mail app  on your Mac, select one or more messages or email conversations.
  2. Choose File > Print.
  3. If you selected multiple messages, each one is printed separately.

If text and graphics print smaller than expected, increase the message font size in the Fonts & Colors paneof Mail settings, then print again.

As an alternative to printing messages, you can save them as files or PDFs."

We also urge you to take a look at your printer settings, documentation, and their support website for additional troubleshooting on the printer side of things.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
