Disappearing wifi password on iMac and iPhone

Out of the blue, I keep being asked for my wifi password on both my elderly iMac and my iPhone. As far as I know, I haven't altered any settings between everything working fine and the wifi password now dropping. If I enter my password on the iMac/iPhone, everything works fine. But I'm having to do this every time I turn on my iMac or iPhone. Occasionally the wifi drops out (ie disconnects) after it's been working fine for quite a bit but this is rare. How do I correct this please? In case it's relevant, I should add that the pc on the desk next to mine connects to wifi without any problem. And my wife's pc does likewise. So the problem is somewhere in the Apple devices.

I have this exact same issue and I have rebooted my router a few times. On my iPhone, if I leave the house and come back I have to rejoin the WiFi and add the password. My older MacBook Air needs to rejoin and add the password every night. I have tried deleting the known network and adding again but no luck. This has only been happening the last month or so.

Yes I have reset my router, thanks for suggesting it. I'll log back into my iMac in the morning and see if that's made a diiference. But I'm doubtful that it will because the pcs in my house (which connect to the Net through the same router) have all worked fine throughout all the problems on my iMac – and worked fine before all the present trouble started.

Hiya. Thanks very much for this. Curiously enough, the hotspot doesn't appear in the list at Sys Prefs>Network>Wifi>Advanced>Wifi tab so I can't delete it. But I've discovered that if I go to Settings> Personal Hotspot on my iPhone and deactivate the Allow Others to Join toggle, then I can kill the iPhone hotspot. So that's ok. But surprised I can't do that (permanently) on the iMac. Am very grateful for all your help.
