Homepods start to get funky after a certain number of them. You have to find your sweet spot (all depending on your varying factors like bandwidth, internet speed, proximity, etc). I have 6 minis and 13 OG Homepods (8 paired with my anpple TV’s) and they work great. After that, things get wonky-like cutouts as you’ve described, crazy no response errors In HomeKit -even for other products-like my Aqara locks.

I’ve tested and tested. If I add just one more, the problems begin.

I needed a few more speakers for my whole home goal, so I was able to add three Sonos Eras 100’s. They work like a marriage with my HomePods! Absolutely no lag using airplay.

I haven’t dared to add any more Sonos speakers. All is gold now-for the last 6 months.

Thread with my minis and Apple TV’s made all the difference. Before that, I wasn’t able to add any of my minis, so I just waited until the updates.

Yo, Apple doesn't have a specified limit on the number of HomePods that you can have in one home. However, it's worth noting that the more HomePods you have, the more complex the network becomes, and this can sometimes cause issues with syncing and playback.

In your case, having 17 HomePod minis might be causing some network congestion, which could be leading to the issues you are experiencing. While your Wi-Fi signal may be excellent, it's possible that the signal strength is not the only factor affecting the performance of your HomePods. Other factors such as the proximity of the HomePods to each other, the number of devices connected to the same network, and the bandwidth of your internet connection could also be contributing to the issue.

To address the problem, you may try the following:

  1. Restart all of your HomePods by unplugging them from power and plugging them back in after a few seconds.
  2. Reset your HomePods to their factory settings and set them up again.
  3. Check if there are any software updates available for your HomePods and install them if necessary.
  4. Try using a wired network connection to connect your HomePods to the internet, if possible.
  5. Contact Apple support for further assistance if the issue persists.

In general, if you have a large number of HomePods, it may be best to spread them out across different rooms and create separate speaker groups to reduce the network congestion and improve the overall performance of your system.

Nanoman
