Folder structure not showing in Import window

Tom Wolsey answered this same question a few months ago with:

"This happens when the application sees something on the top level of the drive as a camera competent, like a camera card. This can be a folder with a name like DCIM or PRIVATE or VIDEO. Find the problem folder and rename. "

This seems(?) to be my problem also as I have a folder called "Home Videos" at the root level of an external HDD (seemed logical to me since the folder holds all my home videos!). Indeed, on closer inspection I noticed that the "File Type" for this folder is shown as "Media Folder" (as opposed to just "Folder" for other folders on the disk).

Here's the rub though: I have renamed the problem folder several times to something even Apple couldn't consider to be a camera component, but FCP seems to be remembering it's original classification and continues to call it a "Media Folder". (I have restarted both FCP and my computer, as well.)

Can anyone help me with this problem please?

Thanks Luis. Not exactly the answer but set me on the right track. DEEP(!) within my folder structure on disk I had a stray (and empty) folder called "DCIM". Deleted that and all was well in Video Town!

Try creating a new folder at the top level of the drive, giving this folder a name that is not video related- say, “My Stuff”.

Put the “Home Videos” folder inside “My Stuff”.

Does your drive now appear as device instead of camera? Can you now see the folder structure? If not, then maybe something else also in top level of the drive is still making FCP treat it as a camera.
