Watch showing notifications despite Focus mode on

Hello, I am struggling with focus mode on my watch - I haven’t really used this feature until recently, but as I started I noticed it is acting weirdly on my watch.

When I turn the focus on (Work or Sleep) it behaves as expected on the phone - no notifications show on a locked screen. At the same time, my watch indicates the focus is on, yet still lets all notifications through.

Rebooted both devices, tried to unpair and pair them again with no success.

Has anyone encountered such behavior? Do you have any suggestions on what could be causing it and what could potentially fix this?

I am using:

Apple Watch 3 (watchOS 8.7.1)

iPhone 12 mini (iOS 16.4.1)

Apple Watch Series 3, watchOS 8

Hi LD150,

thank you for your reply. Watch mirrors the iPhone - I can even se the work focus icon on my watch. Yet notifications (such as signal message) come through, while they do not appear on my phone.

It really looks like it is time to upgrade the watch.

Watch on OS8 will have problems paired to an iPhone on iOS16 because the OS's are supposed to wor kas a pair. ie OS8 with iOS15, OS9 with iOS16. This may be one such problem. If it is you may need to upgrade the Watch

Any Focus will have allowed people and apps and by default they allow messages and calls from your favourite contacts. Check out the Focus settings for people and apps.

Check that Focus on the Watch mirrors the iPhone in iPhone, Watch app, My Watch tab,
