Facebook messenger not auto minimised even when Stage Manager is on

Stage Manager is a great feature, which minimises all apps to the left hand side when I open a new app.

However for MacOS 16 on my Macbook Air M1, Stage Manager does not work for facebook messenger.

The question is:

  • Is everyone experiencing the same or it is just my issue?
  • Is it the facebook issue or Stage manager issue?
  • Any solution for this issue so far?

Thanks all

Hello Jason_Nguyen,

If an app isn't working as expected on your Mac, we recommend trying to resolve the issue by following the steps here: If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

You may find these steps helpful:

1. Quit and reopen the app
2. Restart your Mac
3. Check for updates
4. Reinstall the app

For information about each of those steps, check out the link above.

If the issue continues, the app developer would be the best point of contact for more help: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Thanks.

Hi Jason_Nguyen,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! To help isolate the issue, what happens when you open a new app? Are you using the settings below:

Organize your Mac desktop with Stage Manager

Change Stage Manager settings
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Desktop & Dock  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Go to Windows & Apps on the right, click Customize next to Stage Manager, then turn the following settings on or off:
* Recent applications: Show recently used apps on the left side of your screen.
* If this option is turned off, recently used apps are hidden—move the pointer to the left edge of the screen to briefly show them.
* Desktop items: Show items on the desktop.
* If this option is turned off, items on the desktop are hidden—click the desktop to show the items when you want to access them.
7. Click the “Show windows from an application” pop-up menu, then choose an option:
* All at Once: Show all available windows for an app when you switch to it.
* One at a Time: Show only the most recently used window for an app when you switch to it.
* To switch to a different window when this option is turned off, click the app on the left again to open the next available window.
Click Done.

Thank you.

Thanks Lissy. I want to make it clearer that Stage Manager works perfectly with ALL apps, except for only Facebook Messenger app. When I open a new app, all other apps move to the left hand side, except only this Facebook Messenger app.

And yes I followed all Stage Manager setting you mentioned.

I am checking if other users face the same issue -> so that I can isolate this issue to the Facebook Messenger app, instead of a problem of my Macbook or Stage Manager itself.
