New external SSD not recognized on Ventura on Mac OS

New external SSD not recognized on Ventura. Disk utility does not show it. Works fine on Monterey however Diskutil info (command i ) reports Solid State : no (!) on the 2 different SSDs I have. (minor bug). Reports writeable:no, available space(purgeable + Free):0, and used ... as there is a physical Volume occupying all space.

AppleCare with remote assist using Monterey system determined that the disk needed to be formatted guid.

Used Monterey system and disk utility to format. A one TB disk takes several minutes to format.

Monterey Time Machine successfully created a back on it.

Unmounted from Monterey, connected to Ventura but it is not recognized.

I am not trying to obfuscate (render obscure) TM.

Please re-read my original post. I only mentioned TM as an example of the correct functioning of the SSD on another system.

Thanks again for mentioning the possibility of NTFS bing preloaded(It is not)

Further investigation with apple care using the recovery console and graphical diskutil revealed that one of 2 SSDs (Samsung) is quickly recognized, but the other is never recognized at all. Switching cables (no adapter is involved) did not help.

Apple Care suggested that the failing drive may not be receiving sufficient power and I might try getting a USB hub that provides power.

I notice a similar problem at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254599224 with 22 me too s !

Did you ever install software to write to NTFS drives. It is often bundled with software on the larger drives because the format them for Windows.

That software is often not compatible with OS updates and stops working. One of the symptoms of it not working is it prevents mounting of any external drives.

Thanks for your replies.

I did not install NTFS firmware and I don't think it was pre installed.

I don't think this problem is related to T i m e M a c h I n e (hopefully spaced word won't for found by search.) But I'll look into that.

It works fine on Monterey
