finder search does not work on Ventura, not for filenames or content

For a while it could be reset by dragging a folder into the exclude list, saving, then taking it out. But now even that does not work, and spotlight search (which cannot be targeted to a specific path) also does not work for searching content (it used to! On this machine a couple of weeks ago!)

Fortunately, I have an older laptop and can COPY ALL MY CONTENT THERE, but that is going to take a while.

Is Apple really making MacOS worse on purpose? Why? This is almost a show stopper for me. I have lots of code to maintain, not all of it written/changed by me, and it's years worth of work. Suddenly it is impossible to find things I need to replace.

simply enough to rebuild the index—

The best method above all others is the drag&drop of the Macintosh HD method, add and then remove

you can see it working immediately
