Mandarin characters in location and weather app

Hi all, there seems to be mandarin characters of location on the iPhone and iwatch for location for photo taken and weather app.

My language in Settings is only in English. Anyone encounter similar issue?

We understand that the location in the Weather app shows in Mandarin although the language for your iPhone is set to English. We are happy to help.


Did you previously have your iPhone language set to Mandarin?


Many times restarting can help resolve many concerns. Please use the steps here to restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."


Let’s use the steps here to remove the Weather app: Remove apps from iPhone - Apple Support

After you have removed the app, please reinstall the app.

"Remove apps

Do any of the following:

  • Remove an app from the Home Screen: Touch and hold the app on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, then tap Remove from Home Screen to keep it in App Library, or tap Delete App to delete it from iPhone.
  • Delete an app from App Library and Home Screen: Touch and hold the app in App Library, tap Delete App, then tap Delete. (See Find your apps in App Library.)

If you change your mind, you can redownload apps you’ve removed."


Apple has recently released an iOS update, please use the steps here to update: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."
