How to connect a Studio Display to a HDMI PORT

I have and "old" Macbook Pro 15" from 2012 with 2 Thunderbolt ports, USB-A, HDMI port. Trying to connect to my Studio Display using a an Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Doesn't work so far. Any ideas? Thanks.

The Studio Display is not compatible with any MacBook Pro older than 2016.

The Studio Display is 5120-by-2880 resolution. The 20121 MacBook Pro 15" supports external displays up to 2560 by 1600.
