Why is it not clear when purchasing Apple Watch that another piece of kit is necessary in order to be able to charge my new watch?

well there is whats in the box section for all their products
think all charger cables they sell these days are usb-c connector which is replacing the old usb-a
if you have an usb-c port in a computer you can charge it by connecting the cable to that or if yo have an ac charger with usb-c then you can charge it with that
if you only have older usb-a chargers / pc ports then you can get another cable Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable (1 m) - Apple
