Hello - I have a high pitched sound hum or almost a whistle coming from my 2017 iMac Pro. The sounds sometimes continues even when the iMac is shut down and unplugged. I have tried resetting the SMC - shutting down and unplugging the computer about 5 times. The sound continues. Has anyone else experienced this and more importantly has anyone found a resolution?

Aw man, mine just started doing it too (May 7, 2023). This is the only thread I've found with similar symptoms. I'm wondering if my APC power supply battery needs replacing. My hunch is it's my computer's power supply. The reason I say that is it still whines even after I shut the computer down AND unplug it. Crud!
Never heard of that before. The iMac should be silent when everything is in-plugged.
Unplug it and everything thing else connected to it, like hard drives, a disk player, a speaker system, etc… and listen again.
Thanks so much for the advice. I am trying my iMac now with everything unplugged. So far - no high pitch whistle. I will monitor for a few days and let you know how this works out.

Geez, I feel like a simp - But I'm so happy it's not the iMac Pro. I ran the Activity Monitor in Utilities and noticed my Tour Box (I use it to edit in FCP) was drawing a lot of CPU power. So I unplugged it and it started making the same whining sound. Then a pop up on my screen indicated the batteries were low. I have the Tour Box hardwired into the computer so there's no need for the two AA batteries. As soon as I took the batteries out the whining stopped. I plugged the Tour Box back into the computer and no more problems. If you happen to be using a Tour Box (hopefully) this will solve your problem. Good luck!

I’m not sure what all you had plugged in? But I would start plugging them back in one at a time, to see if I could isolate the problem device.
