I was given an Apple Watch by a friend whose relative passed away. The watch is locked and they don’t have access to the relatives account. Is there a way to unlock the device? I do not have the proof purchase from the original owner.

The Activation Lock is tied to the original owner's Apple ID. Without the Apple ID, the watch is permanently locked.
