Can't transfer Yahoo contacts to iCloud contacts

I have an iphone XR. I signed onto iCoud expecting to see all my contacts but only a few were there. I realized that I haven't been saving my contacts to iCloud and instead it is automatically saving them to Yahoo contacts. I have changed the default account to iCloud so my contacts will save there instead but I still cant seem to transfer all my existing Yahoo contacts to iCloud without risking deleting all my contacts. I have tried turning Contacts off and back on in the iCloud settings on my phone and that still didn't work. What should I do?

Hi Bricklayer365,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

With contacts being stored in your Yahoo account, you will need to export them using a vCard using iCloud.com in order to move them to iCloud.

Import a vCard

If the vCard contains contact information for more than one person, each contact becomes a separate entry.

1. In Contacts on iCloud.com, click in the sidebar, then choose Import vCard.

2. Select a vCard to import.

3. Contacts from imported vCards are added to the All Contacts group. You can add contacts to any other group by dragging them. See Create and manage groups of contacts on iCloud.com.
