using a web cam (external ) with iMovie

Unfortunately both Final Cut Pro and iMovie can only record using the built in webcam.

QT Player and Photo Booth are the only other options.

You will get better quality video if you use a decent mobile phone or camera though it does involve extra work setting it up and transferring the video to the computer.
