My screen saver has suddenly stopped showing pictures on my imac though they still appear on my second monitor

I currently have a 2019 27in IMac with Ventura, Ventura OS, and just the other day I noticed that the photo wall screen saver was no longer working on my IMAc though it still continued to function on a secondary monitor which is attached to the IMac. I have tried to reset all the settings for the screen saver and for both the IMac and the second monitor, but all I get is the screen saver with photos on the second monitor and a black screen on the IMac and an error message that says No Photos.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated

Hi DouglasPeers,

Based on what you've shared we recommend testing your device in safe mode.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Safe mode is particularly useful when you're trying to resolve an issue that doesn't seem to be associated with using any particular app. As always, keeping your software up to date is the first step toward resolving any software issue.

This article contains next steps if the behavior does or does not persist.

Regards.

I did as suggested and once in Safe Mode tried to activate the photo screen saver but the screen stayed black (and the second monitor was disconnected). I tried some of the other screen savers and none of them seemed to work on the IMAC. I rebooted into normal mode with the IMAC and the external monitor and the original problem came back though some of the default system screen savers like drift and flurry work fine now across both screens.

The problem only started a couple weeks ago, at about the time Ventura was updated to the most recent version
