Why does my iPhone record text when I have not pushed the microphone button?

Almost every time I text on my iPhone, after I'm finished and have sent the text, I realize my iPhone is starting a new reply and is recording everything I'm saying or everything it hears in the room. Extremely annoying and potentially embarrassing! Sometimes I have to delete several minutes of recorded conversations... I like the "microphone" button but there is something wrong here. Any way to make the iPhone wait until I ask it to record?

Hello Peter Mars,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Sounds like you're experiencing issues when using the Messages app. Specifically, it unexpectedly records audio. If so, we'd like to recommend some steps to help troubleshoot this issue. Let's start off by following the steps below:

1.) Close the Messages app and relaunch it. Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

2.) Refresh things by restarting your iPhone. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

After your iPhone restarts, test to see if that helps out. Also, if you have any pending updates available for your iPhone, it would be a good idea to install them. This can usually help with unique issues, since updates include fixes. Just in case, this link can guide you through the update process: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

1.)Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2.)Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3.)Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4.) If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5.) Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

We hope these steps help you. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
